For Keeps – Our Dining Room

When Carl and I were first married, we bought the cheapest dining table we could find which then (of course) spent the next few years steadily falling apart (but better the table than our marriage, righhhhht). When it FINALLY came time to replace it, I wanted something beautiful that would grow with us, rather than something that best fitted into our tiny Auckland home. So I did the crazy thing and bought a seemingly *enormous* table, despite having to jam it up against the kitchen wall. 😅 Now that we’re here in Taranaki, and have about three times the room, I’M SO GLAD I DID!! Setting up this dining area has been sooooooo much fun, and is a space I really do enjoy every day. It also just so happens to be the perfect spot for a game of Pandemic. 💕💕

P.S. You can find these dreamy Picasso prints (and a few of the other items pictured) over on my SHOP page. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll do my best to track it down for you.

This table is beautiful and I love the open spacious look of the stools on the end! How long is your table?

Thank you!! The stools just take up so much less space (visually), it’s perfect! And it’s roughly 1.6 metres long, so fairly roomy. 🙂 Love seeing you on here!!

I’ve seen dining set ups with one long bench and four single chairs before which I also like and gives a similar effect – but I think your idea of four single chairs and two stools is even better! The 1.6m looks like the perfect size – I’m looking online and it’s hard to get a feel for what’s big enough but not too big based on the dimensions listed. I’m a total furniture buying newbie hehe.

I like that too! I just feeling like it looks a bit more balanced with stools on either end, rather than a bench on one side. Haha, oh fair enough!! I wouldn’t go much shorter than 1.6m if you’re hoping to seat 6, but that seems to be the standard. And roughly 2.2m to seat 8. You have to show me what you get!!

Ah yeah good point about the balance! Yeah I wasn’t sure if 1.8 would be better for 6, but I think that’s a bit overkill.. Your set up with 1.6 looks perfect space wise. Cool I will send you pics for sure xx
