Cocktail nights are a fairly regular occurrence around here: we went through a surprisingly long phase of finding new recipes to try almost every weekend. 😅 We eventually accumulated enough pretty glasses (and liquor bottles) to warrant buying a bar cart and I am so in love with it! It’s sooooooo nice to have somewhere to display all those cocktail-related things (that doesn’t require half your bench space), and I’ve actually found it really handy having everything I need to make a drink all in one place. Our bar cart is from Freedom and it’s a crazy bargain – you can find it (and a few of the other items pictured) over on my SHOP page.
I’ll be sharing some of my favourite cocktail recipes here in future (yay), but for now I’ve put together a list of cocktail essentials for those of you looking to assemble your own cart. Happy drinking! 💕💕
- Whiskey glasses
- Highball glasses (some cocktails are waaaaaaay too big to fit in a whiskey glass, especially when served over ice, so it’s best to have some highball glasses as well)
- Cocktail glasses (i.e., martini glasses – these are used to serve quite a few different drinks like cosmopolitans and daiquiris, not just martinis)
- Cocktail shaker (preferably glass or stainless steel)
- Paper or metal straws
- Bitters (a 100ml bottle should last you a *really* long time)
- A few different spirits (I’d recommend starting with a white rum, dark rum, vodka, whiskey, and gin)
Hey Fleur! Huge fan and first time commenter. I’ve heard that some people don’t squeeze their limes over ice. What’s your position on this?

Hahaha, thank you for this excellent comment and this very important question. 😅 When mixing a Cuba Libre, failing to squeeze your limes over the ice (coat well) is just the worst thing you can do. Would not recommend mixing cocktails with such people in future.
Hi Fleur, thanks for the reply. Wonderful, that’s just what I had assumed up until now. It’s a relief to know I haven’t been cutting people out of my life unnecessarily!
